So for use around salt water or corrosives.
H1 may slightly beat it out, but it leaves much to be desired in edge retention. The steel is great at corrosion resistance (15% Chromium), maybe the best in production. (A knife will not have both ease of sharpening and edge retention). The steel (LC200N) has fair edge retention and has been fairly easy to sharpen, although it comes quite sharp already. This knife does not have a choil, which is my preference. I love the handle with its excellent grip, finger groove, and guard. This is excellent size for skinning small game or as a filet knife. The Waterway is lightweight with a thin 4.4' blade. I have not had a fixed blade that I like or use as much as this one in some time. This steel, overall design, weight, corrosion resistance, and thin sharp blade is remarkable. The clip allows me to quick tug the knife out of the sheath or you could even carry it in the sheath in pocket or purse and push sharply with the thumb to release it. I carry the knife upside down on my belt. Simply the best corrosion for the hardness. Besides an excellent paring knife, the obvious use is fileting. It was actually easier to debone a chicken than my Wusthof Gourmet, although the latter is longer and thinner. The short 4.4' blade with drop point is so easy to cut, stab, or slice. Thin blade slices through chicken very well. Although it comes quite sharp, I have used my ceramic and water stones on it. Ideal for cleaning fish and a myriad of other chores, the WaterWay comes equipped with a custom-molded foldover-style Boltaron® sheath with a G-Clip mount.
Its full tang is capped by contoured G-10 scales with a CNCmachined texture pattern that ensures a positive grip, even when wet. Crafted from rustproof LC200N steel, the WaterWay’s blade has a full-flat grind, a distal taper, and an integral lower guard. Based on his hard-earned experience using knives in and around the water, he designed the WaterWay-a highly capable fixed-blade knife and a proud addition to Spyderco’s Salt Series.
